About Us
In 1953 it was rumored that the McKeesport YMCA Camp (Camp Shaw) might be for sale. A group of men from the Ten Mile and Monongahela Associations met to investigate the possibility of purchasing the camp. Later that year, the Pennsylvania Baptist Convention purchased the camp in the name of the two associations.
The first year the camping season lasted two weeks with campers and staff arriving by the way of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and by crossing the river on a barge. In 1958, the construction on the present road began,
In 1996, the deed of the camp was given by the American Baptist Churches of Pennsylvania and Delaware to Christians for Camp Carmel, a non-profit organization formed by the people from local churches who wanted to see the ministry of Camp Carmel continue.
In 2021 Camp Carmel celebrates it’s 68th anniversary of making disciples at this wonderful location. We encourage and invite you to come and experience what God is doing through Camp Carmel.
